Dalaman and Environs

Dalaman is 90 kilometres away from Marmaris towards Fethiye, and is perhaps best known for its international airport. Yet being one of the coastal towns in Muğla, Dalaman also boasts numerous bays and islands, and provides many stopover points for yachts cruising in the area. Meanwhile, rafting on the Dalaman River is also a great attraction; various tour operators can arrange a full-day tour that is sure to be adrenaline-packed—and wet! Dalaman was once under Lycian rule; the ruins of Hippokome (near Çöğmen) and Octopolis (near Kavacık) are still visible today, and the Sandras Mountain, Agla Plateau, Yuvarlak Brook, Kaunos, Dalyan, Pisilis, Sarigerme, Asi Bay, and Baba Island are recommended for sightseeing. Köyceğiz is very well-known among bird-watchers with over 100 species of birds, while the Caretta caretta (loggerhead) turtles of Dalyan have become an international phenomenon. Nature here is so lovely you can’t help but agree with the ancients that settled the area...
