Useful Words And Phrases

To make sure you’re seeing the letters specific to the Turkish language correctly: on Internet Explorer go to Page - Encoding - Unicode (UTF-8); from Mozilla Firefox’ menu bar, choose View - Character Encoding - Unicode (UTF-8); on Google Chrome go to the small page icon on the right upper corner of the page, select Encoding - Unicode (UTF-8).

If there are words/phrases you think would be helpful to others to have on this site, please let us know and we’ll try and add them. Before you ask us about any slang, check out this rather “off-colour” (self-named!) website: http://www.learningpracticalturkish.com/off-color-turkish-slang-dictionary.html

A good online dictionary is seslisozluk.com, an open dictionary that offers translations of words and the pronunciation of many. And recently Google has begun to offer a translation service, at http://translate.google.com; it does fine with short sentences up to three or four words, like “how much” or “I’m happy” or “Do you love me” but anything longer should be taken with a large pinch of salt.
