Leather goods and handicrafts are big sellers in Turkey, as they should be; they offer great value for money and are very stylish. You’d need to be short-sighted not to notice the large number of jewellery shops in town. Jewellery, gold and silver are much cheaper here than in Europe and careful shopping will pay dividends. Carpets and kilims are also good buys.

Because Turkey manufactures textiles for a great many companies abroad, excess goods or items with slight defects flood the stores, even the open-air markets. Accessories are also numerous; from silver and gold items to pearls and gems; shoes and belts to handicrafts and embroideries, there are many items that can be personal purchases or make the perfect gift. Souvenirs from your trip can include beautiful hands painted ceramic plates or evil eye beads that will make wonderful mementos of your time here.

You’re right on the Mediterranean, and there are many boats and yachts in the area that are up for sale; buying a yacht may not be something that strikes your fancy while on holiday, but you might have come here with the idea in mind. And given that this is an infinitely lovely part of the world, you may wish to purchase a home here as well, but make sure you work with reputable and professional intermediary when doing so.
