Population
The most recent population census took place in 2008, and accordingly, Turkey’s population was declared to be about 71.5 million people. There are an almost equal number of men and women, and the country’s population is quite young; more than a quarter of the people are under 14 years of age. The population over 65 is not even seven percent. Nearly one fifth of the population resides in Istanbul, the largest metropolis in Turkey.
